Ahead of Team India’s 5-match Test series in England, Australian cricket legend Michael Clarke sparked curiosity by calling Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling “illegal.” But this wasn’t about Bumrah’s bowling action or rules — it was a light-hearted comment during an interview on Clarke’s podcast in IPL 2025.

Clarke said, “It is illegal to bowl at a speed of 150 kmph and be the best person on the cricket field,” praising Bumrah’s rare combination of extreme pace and calm temperament. Usually, fast bowlers are fiery and aggressive, celebrating wickets with intense emotion. Bumrah, however, is known for his composed and respectful demeanor on the field.

Bumrah explained to Clarke that while he has a competitive spirit and always aims to win, he chooses not to cross the line or become overly aggressive. “You should be competitive and give your best, but you don’t need to become a joker,” he said.

Bumrah’s Take on the England Tour

Bumrah described the England tour as challenging but exciting, especially with the swinging Duke ball. He admitted that constant changes in the ball make it tricky, but the weather and conditions offer a unique test for bowlers. About England’s aggressive batting style, Bumrah said, “When batsmen play aggressively, anyone can take a wicket on any day, and as a bowling unit, we are confident.”
