Arun Govil, a prominent figure in the industry, is particularly celebrated for his portrayal of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s original Ramayan. Even decades after the show’s initial broadcast, people continue to recognize him as a divine character. Recently, Om Raut’s film Adipurush, featuring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, became the centre of controversy due to concerns about hurting religious sentiments. The film’s reception among the audience was not entirely favourable. Now, Arun Govil plays the role of a principal in the movie OMG 2. It also stars Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Arun Govil expressed his perspective on whether filmmakers should exercise more caution when producing religious films like Adipurush.
He said, “Religious filmein banani hai banao, kyu nahi? lekin apko iss baat ka zaroor dhyan rakhna chahiye ki sensitive issue hota hai toh logo ki aastha, shraddha, hai bhagwaan ke prati woh hurt na ho. They must take care of that (Make religious films, why not? But you should definitely keep in mind that if it’s a sensitive issue, people’s faith and devotion towards God should not be hurt. They must take care of that).”
When questioned about potential concerns regarding OMG 2 causing controversy due to religious sentiments upon its release, Arun Ji expressed confidence that such a situation would not arise.
He said, “Dekho hona toh kisi bhi project ke sath nahi chahiye. Iske sath hoga ya nahi yeh fear toh ho sakta. But, yeh kisi ke sath nahi hona chahiye. Mujhe nahi lagta there could be any problem in this. Ek message diya gaya hai yeh film ke through Aur woh message bohot positive light mai diya gaya hai (See, it shouldn’t be a concern with any project. Whether it will happen with it or not, this fear is possible. However, this shouldn’t happen to anyone. I don’t think there could be any problem with this. A message has been conveyed through this film, and that message has been presented in a very positive manner).”
Arun Govil’s perspective on the production of religious films reflects a balanced and thoughtful approach. He also acknowledges the importance of creating films that explore religious themes.
On the work front, Arun Govil appears in the movie OMG 2, which features Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam. The movie is directed by Amit Rai. It released in theatres on August 11.
