America Ferrera won movie performance of the year for Barbie at the People’s Choice Awards. The 2023 film, which also stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, also won other awards like comedy movie of the year, Ryan Gosling for male movie star of the year and Margot Robbie for female movie star. At the same time, the movie did not win any accolades at the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards. The movie also did not receive nominations for best actor or best director categories at the Oscars. But, we still have much love for the film. Here are films to watch if you love Barbie too.
Little Women: This movie is based on the book of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. The movie is the story of the March sisters, who are battling poverty when their father is away at war. Legally Blonde: Starring Reese Witherspoon, this one’s the tale of a young woman, whose boyfriend when he gets into law school. To get back at him, she enrolls at the same college as him. In the process, she discovers herself and realises there’s a lot more to her than her looks. Watch it on Prime Video
Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants: This movie stars Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn, Blake Lively and America Ferrera. The movie is about four teenage friends, who have to spend the summer apart. But, they buy a pair of mysterious pants, that fits them all. And they mail it to each other through the summer. The movie is all about female friendship and finding yourself. Watch it on Prime Video
Stepford Wives: This movie starring Nicole Kidman, is a satirist feminist horror. A couple moves from busy Manhattan to a sleepy suburb in Connecticut. Everything seems blissful with all the couples in the neighbourhood. But, Kidman (Joanna) discovers that none of the wives are real, but, are robots. The film questions the idea of an ideal woman, and puts a funny spin on it. Watch it on Prime Video
I Feel Pretty: This film is about Renee, played by Amy Schumer, who struggles with feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem on a daily basis. After a nasty fall, however, she wakes believing her appearance has changed for the better. She feels confident and wins the hearts of people around her with her new demeanour. The movie addresses the issue of body image and self-acceptance. Watch it on Netflix
Enchanted: This film is about a woman living in a fantasy world, who is pushed into the real world by an evil queen. Giselle, played by Amy Adams must now navigate the real world. Aquamarine: This movie starring Emma Roberts, is all about female friendship. It follows the story of a mermaid, who gets stranded on a beach resort and falls in love with a handsome lifeguard. She befriends two girls and asks them to help her win his heart. Watch it on Disney+ Hotstar
