An American football player's plea for free chicken nuggets for a year has become 2017's most retweeted tweet in the UK.

Carter Wilkerson asked fast food chain Wendy's how many retweets he would need for free chicken nuggets for a year, and they set a high bar of 18 million.

Although he didn't make that, he did overtake Ellen DeGeneres to be the owner of the most retweeted tweet of all time, and in the end, he got his nuggets too.

He got retweeted more than 3.6 million times.
