Dhanteras 2018 Laxmi (Lakshmi), Ganesh Puja Vidhi, Muhurat, Time: Dhanteras or Dhanatrayodashi, is one of the most important Hindu religious festivals celebrated in India and marks the beginning of the festival of lights, Diwali. It falls on the thirteenth lunar day of Karthik Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Karthik. This year Dhanteras will be observed on November 5.
The day-long festival is considered to be an auspicious one. People purchase gold, silver, and utensils and offer prayers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that investing in gold or silver will bring prosperity, good luck, and happiness to the family and business ventures.
Why do people worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on Dhanteras?
According to mythology, to solve the woes of a poor Brahmin, a priest once advised him to offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and seek her blessings. In doing so, the Brahmin was blessed with wealth and prosperity. So, on Dhanteras, people pray to Goddess Lakshmi and wish for wealth, prosperity and happiness for their family and loved ones.

It is also believed by many that it was on Dhanteras that Goddess Lakshmi had come out of the ocean while it was churned with a pot of gold and wealth.
Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on this day along the elephant-headed god, Ganesha. As per Hindu mythology, Goddess Lakshmi adopted Ganesha because she was childless. Out of her love for Ganesha, Lakshmi declared that all her luxury, prosperity and wealth belong to Ganesha as well and also announced that in all the three worlds (tri-lok), anyone who doesn’t worship Lord Ganesha along with her will never see prosperity in his life.
Another explanation which surrounds the worship of Lord Ganesha along with worshipping Goddess Lakshmi is that Lord Ganesha is the god of wisdom and there can never be a way to spend money in the right way without the right wisdom.
This year, the Puja Muhurta for Dhanteras is from 04:47 pm to 06:16 pm, that is a duration of 1 hour and 29 minutes. The pradosh kaal will start from 04:22 pm and end at 07:22 pm while the vrishabha kaal will start from 04:47 pm and end at 06:21 pm. © IE Online Media Services Pvt LtdSource Article
